Thinking about a diet overhaul this year? Dr. Frank B. Hu of Harvard’s School of Public Health says a few easy changes to your eating habits can greatly improve your lifespan.
Here are Dr. Hu’s four straightforward diet adjustments for a longer life:
- Prioritize Whole Foods:
He recommends focusing on whole, less processed plant foods like fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and legumes. He suggests dietary patterns like the Mediterranean or plant-based diets, which are known to lower chronic disease risks.
- Cut Back on Processed Foods:
Most of the American diet consists of ultra-processed foods, such as sugary drinks and snacks. Reducing these is vital as they’re associated with a 31% increased risk of early death.
