Harvard’s Digestive Health Pro Lists 4 Foods to Avoid for Inflammation and Suggests Substitutes

Inflammation is essential for healing, as it brings blood and immune cells to where they’re needed most.

But ongoing inflammation can damage healthy cells, causing joint and muscle pain and gut issues.

A gastroenterologist and associate professor at Harvard Medical School often discusses how to tackle inflammation.

Diet plays a significant role in inflammation, aside from unavoidable factors like autoimmune diseases or toxins.

Cut these four inflammatory foods from your diet:

Fatty Meats: Eating fatty meats such as beef, pork, and lamb is linked to mild inflammation.

These meats disrupt the gut’s bacterial balance, increasing inflammation-causing substances and decreasing beneficial ones for gut health.

Ultra-Processed Foods: Foods that have been heavily altered from their original state often contain too much fat, salt, and sugar, which can lead to inflammation.

They lack the protective antioxidants found in whole foods, like whole grains compared to white bread.
