A 95-Year-Old Japanese Retired Heart Doctor Shares His 8 Key Tips for a Joyful, Long Life

During a summer trip to Osaka, Japan, we got to know a 95-year-old grandfather, a retired cardiologist.

His life approach is both inventive and community-driven, exemplifying aging with zest and grace.

Here are his eight vital practices for a long and joyous life:

Morning Walks:

The grandparents start their day early, going for a walk at 5 a.m. They walk for 30 to 60 minutes, making sure to take at least 7,000 steps.

They change their routes, sometimes taking hilly paths by Minoh Falls or walking around Ikeda, beginning their day with energy.

Purposeful Exercise:

Following their walk, he has a specific exercise routine.

This includes stretching, exercises to build strength, and balance routines, tailored each day to suit his abilities, ensuring he stays active but not overworked.

Social Media Connection:

After his exercise, he takes time to connect with his family and friends through Facebook and Instagram.

Knowing that loneliness can affect older adults, he uses these platforms to keep in touch with his international network, including grandkids in the U.S.
